Artist's Comments

My family has a vast collection of ancient and decaying automobiles. This Hudson with Wyoming plates from the 50's is by far my favorite. There's something free and easy about the shapes of cars from this time period; it's somewhat hopeful and graceful, even in death.

Really good shot, but I wonder if it could need a bit more saturation.
:iconolauslinn:
yeah, it actually started out very saturated. I took a lot of color out of the grass and forest and upped the saturation on the car a bit. I like the way it changed the feel of the shot, but I'm not entirely happy with the color of the sky. It had been way blown out (too white) so I toned it way down, but the grey color isn't great either. I think the shot may have been flawed too much to begin with; the only solution may be to re-shoot. :(

Hmm, actually it could be an interesting experiment to try to replace the sky though, do you still have the original image?
:iconolauslinn:
yeah, i do, and i've got all the psd saves throughout the process too. By the end, I actually had too separate layers- one is the car and grass, the other is the sky and forest. That's how I was able to change the sky color so drastically without ruining the rest. I could maybe do a whole replacement, but then it's not really a photo anymore! Dilemma...

Ah, the dilemma, true true. Then again, you could send it to me, I'd look at it and then return you a picture of a beach and a flowerpot, and then say that I only changed the white balance slightly.

hahahaha, welcome to the digital age, huh? Makes you start to wonder about, um, everything you see in magazines and newspapers, for sure.

don't change a thing, the focal point is perfect as is...i don't see where it needs any more color at all. I like that you desaturated the grass and trees. The car pops more.
love it :)

if you're photographing in color you show the color of their clothes...if you use black and white, you will show the color of their soul. [link] [link] [link] [link]

thank you very much for the kind words! I like the desaturation too.... I mostly just pulled green and yellow out of it and upped the red....
